Why does my boyfriend lick my face so much?

Update:

He does it a lot, like a couple times a week, sometimes when I'm sleeping to wake me up but mostly when he acts like he is going to give me a kiss he does that insteadThen sometime he will keep doing it until I cover my face. It is an insult, or a compliment? Is he being mean or flirting? Is he marking his possession or is he showing admiration? I am confused.
