According to a recent Pew survey most Americans think that religion is losing influence in American life. What do you think about this?

Yeah, I think this is pretty true. The Christian nation numbers have included people who haven't seen a church since baptism and the ever popular Christmas/Easter Christians. So the influence has been lower than realized for a while now. Kids these days have a low tolerance for BS, that includes their parents. If mom and dad want to spew some garbage, they better be aware the kids are gonna Google it and call them out. Then add in the disillusioned who have left the church and the picture starts to look hopeful for logic and reason.

Once I became old enough to have good reasoning skills, I never considered "religion" (as opposed to faith or philosophy) a good influence on people. Religion has always been more about keeping a certain person or certain people (an oligarchy) in power, collecting money from poor people to benefit themselves. So I am pleased to see its influence waning. And it's about time! The Dark Ages were 500 years ago, so it's high time to divest ourselves of ancient superstitions and ancient hierarchies where a select group gets to tell others they are bad and in need of redemption. Those select groups (such as the Catholic priesthood) have been increasing exposed for the hypocrites they are.

It never seemed to have any influence in the first place. Growing up with "christians" all i saw were people who drank, fornicated, and did drugs to appease their small town boredom. Now we can see "sin" out in the open a little more from its hiding and everyone thinks we're just now losing morals.

I think it is true.
I think it has been the case for more than 200 years. (Yes: religious influence on life in the U.S. was already declining before the Revolutionary War).
I think it is inevitable, the result of reliance on things *instead* of God (wealth, government, knowledge, whatever). Note that there is nothing particularly wrong with relying on those things except when your reliance on those things *replaces* your reliance on God.

I think it a true statement and one I hope is correct. We were founded as a Secular Nation and it's about time we made that a reality.

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. (Luke 17:26-30 KJV)
