What is the smallest offense a child abuser(not sex offender) can do to get in jail or lose custody of the child?

Update:

what if the abuser hit that child with a gun- would the abuser go to jail, or is it just therapy, counseling, and hoping that it would solve the problem.

In Florida and other states, touching a child anywhere that can be covered with clothing. Touching a child on the ankle can mean a life sentence. And as to the update, that same person can hit that same child with a gun or fist or whatever, and have less than a tiny chance of spending 1 day in jail.

Chances are good that if the child was abused to the point of cps getting involved and parent arrested, that parent may lose custody. There are exceptions but once you get busted for child abuse, it stays with you forever. I wouldn't let a person busted for child abuse ever watch my children.
