Do we readily lie about our religious beliefs?

For example, Christian church membership in the Scandinavian countries is about 80% yet most will say they are atheist or agnostic. In effect they allow a deception in order to gain a few benefits from church membership. If this kind of deception can occur with good Scandinavians, why wouldn't we readily assume Hitler would have done the same, i.e. lie about his Catholicism in order to have some advantage?

Huh? You got that wrong. The reason to why so many Swedes still are members of the church is not to gain benefits. You don't get any benefits from that. The reason is that Swedes used to automatically become members of the church when they were born. That was changed in 1996, and that is why the numbers now are declining. Most of those who already are members are too lazy to leave the church since it requires some paper work, but people die off.

I guess so, since it is untrue that 80% of Scandinavians belong to a church. In Sweden, it is 2/3 of the country that belong to the Church of Sweden (a Lutheran-based church).

A recent survey by the Church of Sweden found that about two-thirds of the country’s 9.4 million people belong to the church. Yet only 15 percent of church members say they believe in Jesus Christ. An equal percentage of Swedes call themselves atheists. And only about 400,000 of the roughly 6.6 million members of the church say they attend services at least once a month.

The survey, conducted by Jonas Bromander, chief analyst of the Church of Sweden, also found that membership continues to decline (at an accelerating pace), from about 95 percent of the population 40 years ago to the historically low 68.8 percent today.

Of course he could have lied, it wouldn't have been the worse thing that he did. But, he claimed to be a Christian, he never left the Church, nor was he excommunicated, so we only have his word for his religious beliefs.

Why are you fundies so obsessed with Hitler? Does it REALLY matter what religion he was, as his actions were not done in the name of his religion, but of his political beliefs?

It's possible, but what's really damning is that Hitler knew he could count on Christians to support his policies. One of the first things he did when he was in power was to shut down the German Freethinker's Society, so it's pretty clear he knew who would support him and who would fight him.

Christians readily lie about their religious beliefs because that's about all they have. The religion is waning, and Christians are finally reading their bible and discovering what violent, childish nonsense is in there.
