Poll: Am I been to harsh on my friend who has committed an offence?

My friend has commit welfare fraud by not telling them he is washing cars for money.

As a well respected member of the local community and church go-er I was so angry and no longer speak to them. I tore up the Xmas card he sent.

My face is still red and I'm think of reporting him to welfare people.

Problem is he has few friends and if I tell people in the community centre he will have no friends at all.

Am I being to harsh? Or am I doing something for the greater good?

Sort of--everyone makes mistakes. Doesn't mean you have to be friends with him though. I'd recommend that you shouldn't get involved; it's his issue and involving yourself will only give you more headaches.
