What is the appeal of MLP to adults?

I have to wonder, what about my little pony appeals to so many adults? There's obviously really creepy fans, but I can't imagine every adult who likes the show likes it for creepy reasons. There's some cartoons I know that appealed to adults when they were on, like the Powerpuff Girls. Which had a lot of jokes that catered to older audiences. Is there some sort of complex plot, continuity, character development, jokes for adults? What's the appeal?

It's kind of hard to say, but I think it's got a lot to do with the way that the content is still cute and fun, but rather than being patronizingly childish and especially girly, the writing, stories and main characters manage to still remain very mature (put into human context, the six main ponies would all be in their late teens to early twenties, rather than children as would be common for this type of program) and it's allstill relatable to male viewers as well.

Of course, theres also the 'cute girls do cute things' aspect to it that you tend to see with anime a lot as well. Disregarding the pony thing, watching girls engage in random meanderings is suprisingly popular as a genre.
