So...what happens to Tauriel??
So what the heck happens to Tauriel in the 60+ years after Battle of the Five armies and Fellowshop? There is no mention of Tauriel at all. I realize that she's not in the books and when Peter made LOTR that character wasn't thought of, but then why make her part of the Hobbit movies to only leave her in limbo at the end of Hobbit 3? It's like a huge "?" about it... Any ideas?

The scene with Thranduil telling her her snots and tears make her love for Kili real <gag>, is the 'you're forgiven' speech and the only end I could come up with for her was to go back to Mirkwood, since Legolas has been told not to.
As long as it's not an open ended Elven warrior princess spin off they have in mind, I so don't care about the non-Tolkien character's outcome.
But am grateful for the costume designers giving her the best garb in the films....

ha ha ha ha ha! I was wondering exactly the same!
At first I thought she would die in the movie since she never appeared in the LOTR trilogy, but as she survived, then I've no idea.
She was banished from her home, but afterwards when she cries for Kili, it seems like she could return with the elves because of two things. 1:the King seemed change his mind about her. He saw her pain was real and he felt sorry for her, so he might let her get back home. 2:She had nowhere else to go. Legolas left to the North to find Aragorn, so he left her. Where else could she go???
I guess we just have to imagine our own ending for her. I think she returned to her home and suffered forever, which sucks! ;(
Unfortunately there's no much else for her to do. Otherwise she would have showed up to fight Sauron, right?
Sorry, but I don't know more than you about this.Maybe when the DVD comes out there will be some extra or deleted scene that might bring some light on it.
Hope it helps! ;)

We have no idea canon-wise because she isn't in the books (as you say) and PJ and Company never bothered to give us much to go on. Evangeline Lilly has said that she believes that Tauriel eventually returns to her old life in Mirkwood, and that's about as close to canon as we have to go on with her.
