if a father belts his 35 year old daughter as punishment for insisting on wearing trousers instead of skirt - isn't this assault?

This really did happen to me at age 35.

My friends told me I should have hit hi him back.

    Yes, this is assault and you need to not be around your father anymore if he is physically harming you. You're a grown *** woman and I would sue him.
