Why do conservatives favor a huge military?
From my thinking, conservatives are hung up on having the 2nd amendment be the most sacred of all rights we have. That way they can protect their freedoms from an oppressive government. But yet they support a huge military that would easily vanquish any citizen trying to stand up for their rights.

Tell me, has this huge military that can easily vanquish our rights defeated the Taliban in 13 years?
Clearly their are some things the mighty US military is not so good at. Fighting an insurgency that uses guerrilla tactics is not one of them.
It's estimated that there are about 120 MILLION gun owners in this country. If even 1% of them participate in armed rebellion, how will the mighty US military fight that, especially as those people look just like everyone else and do not fight in uniforms on the battlefield.
Are you going to start carpet bombing whole neighborhoods or cities that have some rebels in them and kill a bunch of innocents too? You think American soldiers will do that in large numbers, or do you think it's more likely many will desert at that point?
We favor a huge military to protect us from foreign enemies, and an armed populace to protect us from domestic enemies.

It's not a "huge" military. It's a properly-sized military
Also, the Posse Comitatus Act prevents the federal government from using military personnel to enforce laws

It's rather obvious, because welfare or the social safety net does not pay war toy manufacturer dividends.
It also feeds into the violence and state-sponsored death equals "strength" to most conservatives, supporting an oversized military that currently is "fighting" a plethora of covert and deliberate foreign intervention "blow-back" reactions by foreign freedom fighters is often reported in reverse, that these people overseas are rejecting our imperial form of "interference, intervention or just plain meddling" as an act of war against their lives by entities of the US government.
In the basic follow the money, conservatives love war, because it thins the ranks of would-be democratic voters who often start out "fighting for their country", but eventually are convinced that foreign threats are just as real a threat to American interests as are domestic threats, once they discombobble this narrative inside their heads, they as an active duty member of any number of military branches, is all jazzed up for some "payback" in most instances that pay-back is for blow-back from something that American antagonists have previously done under the behest of the American government and typically that trigger event 9 times out of 10 solely benefits a corporate interest, not necessarily an American citizen interest aside from perhaps the off-hand American citizen who just so happens to have an "investment interest" in seeing a robust return on their investment in this particular American corporation.
This and the "freedom isn't free" false narrative is where conservatives jump on the war toy funding bandwagon, they can sell war because it gives them direct and indirect means to enrich themselves personally and if they support funding for an appropriations bill in the house, they can expect some reciprocal election support from the same war toy pipeline, it doesn't even have to be direct, it can be just a super-PAC ad-buy that supports a given district or a local construction/jobs project.
One hand washes the other, the macho military does not take kindly to dissent, as a veteran, I was banned from Military.com because a handful of might makes right absolutists did not seem to think my free speech rights are important and decided that I need to STFU and go away.

How about this.
Can we all just grow up and stop asking questions about conservatives this and liberals that...
Can we just talk about Democrats and Republicans, and post actual verifiable facts, instead of making wild generalizations and lumping people together into categories and applying collective logic based on unsupported sweeping generalizations...
is that too much to ask...

Our Military is being cut by Obama so he can give the advantage to ISIL/ISIS, you better demand more military and more firearms, only the military can take the fight to the terrorists and only the citizens can defeat the threat imposed by Obama and his Nation of Islam.

Because we need one. We've got ISIL running around the middle east, Putin is a big problem. North Koreas little crazy person isn't afraid to use a nuke aimed at us. We need to be ready for anything or we will be unable to protect our country.
