Atheists: how are Muslims actually peaceful?

The acts of an individual do not constitute the character of a billion people, slick.

Christians in Africa burn children to death and stone women to death for being witches or being albinos. Does that mean I should reasonably conclude that all Christians are psychopaths? Some Buddhists in Indonesia went on a rampage this past summer, burning and looting and murdering Muslims. Does that mean I should rationally conclude that all Buddhists are that way?

Islam is as peaceful a religion as Christianity. In both cases, fanatics and freaks use the words and symbols of those religions in committing horrific atrocities. It is not a reflection on the religion itself, really, but on the ease with which exclusivist, "revealed" religions can be twisted and used to justify almost any act, no matter how terrible.

What ISIL did to a Muslim Jordanian pilot, and what they are doing to Muslims and Christians and Pagans and others across the ground they control is horrible. But you should be ashamed of yourself for your efforts to paint the entire Muslim faith with the brush of fanatics.

well... Christianity used to burn heretics alive too. Or those it considered to be heretics. Some of your more exciteable preachers wouldn't mind a return to the Good Old Days of having a barbecue in the open air. Religious Jews aren't above burning down Palestinian homes in the West Bank - with people of the wrong religion still inside. (And no settlers ever get arrested for this). And your logic is?

I'm an atheist and I never said they were peaceful. Not aware of any atheists who did. We think all religites are nuts

When you realize that about 23.20% of the world population is Muslim, you will understand that a minority of those who profess to believe in Islam are mostly peaceful.

Surely we do not judge all Christians for the actions of the extremist even though the bible clearly states;

"Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. Ignore the name of the religion if any and deal with the extremist.

When Christianity was the same age that Islam is now, they had this little thing called the Inquisition. So it isn't like christians have always been about peace and fun.

Um, dude, hundreds of millions of them are. They aren't all the same.

However, obviously Islam is the religion with the giant extremism problem. They have a significant minority of violent crazy fanatics.

I'm an atheist--I think every one of the pig dog coward fundamentalist Islamics should be hunted down--and executed by flame thrower. Their eyes should be put out and they should be buried in pig skin. While this is meaningless to the dead man--the rest of these pigs--will think twice as according to their mythology this will prevent them from an afterlife.
