Was I wrong to get my older sister arrested?

My 18 year old sister has always annoyed the hell out of me. She even hits me sometimes but I never hit her back cause I'm a guy and I would probably get arrested even though I'm defending myself.

The other day she made me REALLY mad. Like beyond anything I can describe. She smashed my ps4 along with all of my games. I bought that with my own money. I'm 16 and have my own job. She's never worked a day in her life.

I had enough. I recorded her smoking weed (which she does every night). My parents don't know but I do. I called the cops on her. I showed them the video and showed them the stash in her room. She was arrested on the spot. She's in ALOT of trouble now and I don't even have any sympathy for her.

My parents are mad at me but I couldn't care less. She's a disgusting human being that deserved to be punished.

As the answers are saying Family is Family. However, the PS4 and games aside, you definitely made the right choice. If she is exactly the way you describe her as, she's probably been sheltered from the world and doesn't know squat about how human beings have to be in order to live a happy and productive life. That could be a result of a personality or parenting-gone-wrong, but it happened. She needs help to understand why she deserves everything she's gotten and to open her eyes to the rest of us. Maybe it took a large provocation like smashing an expensive gaming system for you to report her, but even if you did it only for that reason, she should have been taken in long ago. Some people here are saying things such as: "OMG YOU GOT HER IN JAIL BECAUSE YOU WERE BUTTHURT OVER YOUR GAMING SYSTEM! THAT'S TAKING IT TOO FAR!" Technically, it's not, because I'm sure you would not have gotten her arrested if she was a really good person but was in a major mood and (still inexcusably) smashed your system. No matter the reason, she needed to be arrested for her own well-being in the long run. You can never take it too far if it would have happened eventually, and the sooner the better in this case.

Hmm well she smashed your PS4. Which is sucky and she obviously is a ***** in many ways.

You have also highlighted the fact she smokes pot which can only be a good thing for her.

Then again, she is now going to have a drugs charge on her record for the rest of her life and that is likely to have ramifications for her getting a job in future.

So really I'd say you got your own back on her but don't be surprised if this doesn't have longer lasting effects down the road. If your sister hits snags in her life and is in a low place as many people are there is a good chance this crap will be dragged up again even though it has no connection. She will blame you for her not having money because she has a crap job.

Even though no one can ever tell what her life would have been like without this chances are it will still linger there at the back of everyone's mind causing a bitter friction between the two of you.

OR none of that will happen and it will just blow over with little consequence. I know where I live smoking pot is quite a small charge overall. People have to be caught with cannabis at least three times before it becomes a problem. In the US, I hear they have a zero tolerance policy depending on what state you are in.

Unfortunately you've made your bed, now you have to lay in it. Or build a time machine. Whichever comes first.

My son was taught in gradeschool to call the police on parents or siblings for these exact things. She was so bad she could have harmed anyone in her way the next day. She's old enough. The lets protect the bad one and say the young man is being vengeful haven't seen the results of waiting. There's never a good time. If it was an easy choice yes, parents talking with their kids would hae caught on already. She can't be a perfect Jekle and Hyde. It would have been nice in a perfect world. But we have instincts for a reason. He may have felt and seen it was going too far at that moment.I've been a nurse for many years. I've never seen a nasty or violent pothead. They drive too slow, are over cautious and different. There could have been dangerous things put into pot. Bad things like arsnic that could cause permanent brain damage. What if she got so high she harmed this young man. He's got more sence Had the parents had more time to to figure it out who knows how long it would be and what if she snapped on them? I can't believe they didn't really know and were going to deal with it. In denial and she'll outgrow it..Destruction of valuable property. Thats all a scream for help if nothing else. Small town jail for her age and the way it went down won't send her to prison. I think an attorney will get her to rehab and probation. Possibly restitution also. I have an adult son. I was a teen in the 70's. Some friends parents admitted it's been going on for generations. All we learned was about prohabition shows the unjust ugly things that happened. That one hits home for tragedy.

You are not wrong, besides, I know how you feel after what she have done. For example, your PS4, an average price for a PS4 is averaging between $399-$499. That's alot of money, plus your games, if you have about over 50+ games, totaling to about $350 or more, so,$499 + $350 = $849, plus PlayStation Network cards, $50, $849 + 50 = $899. $899 is your grand total! Well, you've worked hard enough to get at least $900, that's about the equivalent of a 2-3 months of $26 per hours of work! Besides, she does a lot of pretty bad stuff like what you said, "I recorded her smoking weed (which she does every night)", that's way out of control. I don't know what to say about your parents, but really, why would your parents be mad at you for what your older sister did to you? Why couldn't they even think about you? You're 16 and she's 18! I can't believe what kind of parents you do have. Your sister is doing very illegal stuff, your parents are mad at you. Needless to say, for example, if this case was to take place on court, the judge will ask your parents why wouldn't they do such a thing to let your sister just let you do this to you. If this is going to be a real court case, I'd say everything what you've said on your question.

Dude... That was way too far. I know your PS4 feels important to you now and it was definitely wrong for her to break your stuff- BUT

Being responsible for your sister getting a criminal record for a victimless crime like smoking weed is waaaaay overboard.

She sounds awful, don't get me wrong but the biggest thing you can do is handle it between the two of you. Family is important- you only get the one. You'll get older and you'll get a new play station or you won't but a drug charge will haunt her forever. That's not a proportionate response.

Much better to take that anger sleep on it for a day or two and think about what would make you happy.

At the end of the day I don't think you even feel good about this one or you wouldn't be asking for validation on the Internet.

For everyone who tells you it's just and that she's a drug addict and deserves it, etc- chill out. She's 18- they're both basically kids- it's not the same as turning in your brother for being the unibomber

Dude that's actually crazy! I don't know why the **** you'd ever do that to your sister though. I don't think your ps4 was worth your relationship, cause if I was her I'd have a hard time even looking at u ever again. Also, it's going to be very difficult for her to find a job with that on her record! Plus, I'm pretty sure your parents would make her repay you somehow for the damages. If not, then break something of hers or some **** cause clearly your parents don't care that much. Anways, I honestly hope everything is working out, sorry for the late response but I just came across this question lol.

It doesn't sound like revenge. Domestic violence and destruction of property. My son was taught in gradeschool to call the police on parents or siblings for these exact things.
