auto dispute... parking lot accident?

I recently got into a parking lot wreck. I was driving in the parking lot when I hit a guy backing up his car. the damage was to my driverside bumper in the portion of the car where the blinkers are (not the front as my headlights are still intact) Under the mirror. His was to the driver side rear corner.

I kinda admitted to the police that i was destracted for a split second until noticing it was to late. will that affect the insurance that I said that? I feel like he was also at fault for backing up too fast. I also didn't do a good police report. I never done this before, and I wasn't thinking straight.

As a general rule, most parking lot accidents are found to be both at fault. But, since you was in a lane, vs someone backing up, who has a greater duty, to verify if if it is clear to back up, then even with you being distracted and (if) on the police report, will be more in your favor.

Just wait and see how insurance determines fault.

    Never admit liability.

Just report the accident to your insurance company giving them all the details including the police report number. Then let them sort it out. They won't be very happy you admitted liability but too late to worry about that now.

Look at it this way, if you had not been distracted you would have seen the other guy backing out and would have had time to stop if you had not been going too fast.

It doesn't make any difference insurance-wise what you admitted, what you said, what you didn't admit or didn't say. ONLY the involved insurance companies can determine fault (liability). They do that based on the facts of the accidents, not on what people say or don't say. If the other guy was backing up, he will likely be found liable. Simply notify your insurance company, tell them your side of the story and allow them to handle it.

You can't back unless it is clear to do so, and hitting another shows it was not clear, so it isn't your fault. Let the involved insurance companies work it out.

I would not worry about it, your insurance will come to an agreement with his no matter who's fault it was
