    will you used the standard deduction or will you itemize? that is your snag with filing separately, you must both use the same method and this might be harmful to one or the other of you

    the married filing separately rate is the same as single and higher than filing jointly

    Probably joint. This would result in the same tax as if you both made $68 K

    It is better to file jointly 99% of the time.
