Why do some atheists insist on proselytizing? These are the same people who condemn Christians for doing the same.?

If you believe that people should be able to live their lives, as they choose, why do you insist on responding to questions on religion with negativity? Let people be. Or do you really think you can condemn the religious, while whining that you're under assault by the religious commenting on YOU? Double standard, right?

You have a very good point, some atheists are as fanatic and arrogant as some religious people. But, if you were to talk to those people, you would understand that they are not directly opposed to a notion of a divine creation of the universe. What they contest is the will of some theists to organize the society according to the words of their God. Because then, I'll have to ask you, which God?

The god of the orthodox Jews, the Melkites, the Elcesaites, the god of the Samaritans or the Sephardic?

Perhaps the Eastern Orthodox, the Roman Catholic or the Coptic church. Or is it the Sunni, the Shia, the Alevi or the Ahmadi Muslims?

The Protestant church, the Lutheran, the Calvinist or the Anglican one? The Baptists, the Adventists, the Presbyterians, the Methodists, the Pentecostalists? Perhaps it is the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the hundreds of different independent fundamental churches, all believing that the universe was created only for them.

What about Druidism, the Norse and the Greek mythologies, Zarathustra, Buddha, Krishna, Horus, Yoruba or the hundreds of African and pre-columbian american religions?

Atheism isn't a religion and atheists are often told to sit down and shut up, and are thought of as militant atheists for saying what we believe. But it isn't considered militant when other religions speak about what they believe. Most atheists don't condemn the religious. We simply don't believe in god and that is the one thing all atheists have in common. Otherwise we all have different beliefs. While there are some who condemn religion, they never act against it. They simply act to keep religion separate from state. And having a negative opinion of religion doesn't mean we're intolerant. While we may dislike the religion, we don't have anything against its followers. Meanwhile, religious people who have a negative opinion of atheism, tend to distrust and even hate atheists. Atheists are one of the most hated minorities and it is socially acceptable to discriminate against them. There are no societal standards saying atheist discrimination is just as wrong as sexism and racism.

I hope someone someday in the distant future is searching the remains of our collapsed civilization and they finally come to the conclusion that all we did in our time on earth was argue about religion instead of worrying about the common problems that ALL of us should have concern about. They'd be right.

Some people just can't be happy unless they are shoving their beliefs (or lack thereof) down other peoples throats.

I've known theists, atheists, and anti-theists who were all guilty of doing so.
