My work just got insurance what do I do?
A couple weeks ago I signed up through the obamacare and managed to get insured at a good rate. Now a few days ago, my work is providing insurance and the rates are through the roof. Do I have to take my employer's insurance or can I keep mine? I make less than 12k a year and I am a college student would there be any exceptions?
EDIT: I'm mainly concerned because my coworker said that if my work offers insurance then I will lose my subsidy automatically.

If the insurance available from work is unaffordable, you are ok. At the time you applied, I take it, no plan through work was available, so your answers were honest, and you are not required to abandon the plan you chose, just because one was offered after you had already qualified for the marketplace plan you chose. Next year though, you will have to say a plan was offered, and the answer might be different.

Good question. If your employer offers insurance already then you are not eligible for subsidies on the exchanges, unless the plan they offer is "unaffordable" (which I think the law defines as more than 9% of your income). But I don't know what the case is if you already have insurance and they start offering you the option.

The language that would have stopped health insurance companies from increasing rates at will was removed from the bill to appease republicans. In other words, the ACA does not prevent health insurance companies from being greedy *****. Call the hotline and talk to one of the insurance navigator people.

You should be receiving Medicaid if you make under $12,000 and you can keep the Medicaid as the Employers insurance is too costly for you. Medicaid is different from the Affordable Care Act.

You got a good rate because it was subsidized by the taxpayers. There's no reason for taxpayers to subsidize business operations. If your employer insists that you enroll in the group scheme, it's up to you whether or not you continue with private coverage as well.

One of the many BENEFITS of Obamacare is that you are no longer strapped to a job for fear of losing your health insurance. You may keep what you have.
