Is this the depression talking?
16 year old daughter took overdose of Advil pm and is now hospitalized. She's been there for 3 days. Yesterday she wanted to come home but today says coldly: "I don't want to come home and I don't miss you". She's been unhappy for a long time and is on a lot of medication. It's like she's completely a different person! We live in Alabama. What are her options if she still feels this way after the weekend is over?? This is the most gut wrenching thing a parent can go through.

You said she has been unhappy for a while now. I'd like to know why. I hope it has nothing to do with you. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I've seen too many children ending up with depression because of what their parents expect from them or how strict their parents are with them. If you truly care about your daughter, you must understand why she's unhappy and make an effort to fix that issue, even if that issue is related to her family.

Anyone who takes an overdose will not be cured in three days. What she says now you can discount as being part of an illness. She should remain there until she is well. Sometimes hospitals do nothing but put a person on watch. You should have her see a psychiatrist on a regular basis when she comes home.
