Need crispy waffles?

There was a huge sale (lots of gas points) on aunt jamima's complete pancake mix. I have a pretty high end Belgian waffle iron (temp set to medium), but the waffles from this mix, come out soft and not crispy. Any tips?

Okay, instead of oil use butter. Use an equal amount. Then once the waffle is done just check it and then if it's still too soft let it go for about 30 seconds and repeat as necessary. You can also add a little bit of honey. I've found that's great for the texture.

I have the same problem with the Kodiak Jack's mix. It makes way better pancakes than waffles. I'm going to try whisking in a little veg oil to the batter and see if that helps. I've also frozen some waffles and I hope they will crisp up by being reheated in the toaster.

It is hard to get them crispy, mainly because the mixes have egg powder, milk powder and other ingredients in them to make a softer product, scratch recipes can be altered to make a firmer crispy waffle, less flour and more fat is the trick

Oil your pan and add more sugar to the mix. The reason waffles are crispier is because there is more sugar in them. The sugar caramelizes, giving a crispier outside.

make your batter thinner, and cook it hotter, add some butter to the waffle iron first to fry the outside.

  • Make the batter a bit thinner and turn up the heat.
