Engine Oil question?

Hi

My car manual states to use 15W40 oil, but I was given about 4L of 15W50 oil, so I'm wondering if I can use the 15W50 oil with no problems. I live in Australia by the way, so the temperature is usually on the warmer side most of the time.

Thanks

On your next oil change use two liters of the 50 and then the rest of 40 weight. So basically mixing the weights.

Do that for the next oil change and you are out of the 50 weight.

I've never heard of 15/40 being recommended for anything other than diesel but you didn't say so, sure, 15/50 should be fine.

The higher the viscosity, the more resistance to flow. Less flow = less ability to remove heat = more wear
