Practical to use an old treadless tire essentially as a racing slick for a track day?

If you were to use your own or even buy some old summer or all-season tires for next to nothing would it be practical to use these as what would basically be slicks for a track session? (for fun--I understand actual slicks would perform worlds better)

Update:

FOR FUN. NOT. TO. WIN. A. RACE.

No it is not practical or safe. A treadless tire is a worn out tire and is a very unsafe tire. You need a tire designed for racing with the proper rubber compound.

You need special tires for auto racing! It doesn't make a lot of difference if it is IMSA or Indy Car. Don't you remember that F1 race from Indy about 10 years ago? Their new F1 tires couldn't take the stress of the 9 degree Turn 1 on that track, which is relatively flat for tracks in the US. You just can't pick up a set of Firestones from your local Sears and go racing. Those tires would blow in a few laps from the stress.
