What is the advantage to downshifting as you slow down?
As opposed to holding the clutch in as you slow down and then releasing the clutch into a lower gear as would be appropriate for the new speed (jumping gears after braking as opposed to sequential downshifting)?
6 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation3 years agoCar making constant buzzing noise when accessories turned on but will not turn over / start and seatbelt sign is flashing.?
Not sure if this is relevant, probably is, but I was switching out the climate control unit and attempting to put it back in as this happened. Nothing got disconnected and everything is back in place. Also, the overdrive dash light flashes when it pauses for a moment in making the buzzing noise. No codes from ECU.

7 AnswersEngineering4 years agoCar is not delivering power as it should and in a seemingly random fashion, unless I floor it, then it seems fine. What might be causing it?
Car is a 2000 nissan maxima. Just had the spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter replaced.
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs4 years agoWorst Case Scenario For Towing More Than Your Car Can Handle?
What would be the worst case scenario if you tried to tow more than you car was rated for?
My specific scenario is a 2000 nissan maxima with 165k miles on it and the engine and tranny are in great shape (these cars can last over 300k mi if taken care of). The car is rated at 1,000 lbs towing capacity and I do not know how much my items weigh, but I would be extremely surprised if they came to more than 1500 lbs
7 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation5 years agoPractical to use an old treadless tire essentially as a racing slick for a track day?
If you were to use your own or even buy some old summer or all-season tires for next to nothing would it be practical to use these as what would basically be slicks for a track session? (for fun--I understand actual slicks would perform worlds better)
6 AnswersOther - Auto Racing6 years agoCould I push-start my automatic Nissan Maxima 2000?
Yes I understand this is not typically possible with an automatic, but the vehicle does have the ability to put it into "1st" and "2nd" gear with the shift lever, so I'm wondering if this would change anything.
Say you were to push it in neutral to say 10-15 mph and switch it to "1st" with the shifter, would it start? I'm guessing no still, but I figured I'd ask out of curiousity.
3 AnswersNissan7 years agoWill putting off replacement of struts lead to [early] failure of other suspension components?
I'm pretty sure I know the answer... but I think I need to hear it to have the motivation to spend the money it takes to have them replaced.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agoDoes anyone know statistics on car drivers killed FROM motorcycles/motorcyclists?
I've read basically every other kind of statistic and I always hear about how speeding is such a danger to everyone, and this is true in a car, but do motorcyclists really injure car drivers all that often? I know it's happened, but I get the gist it's pretty rare...
6 AnswersMotorcycles7 years agoHow do I wire something so that it only runs when the vehicle is turned on?
I have a motorcycle with a gps system installed, but right now it's installed directly to the battery and drains it even when the bike is not in use.
This currently makes it so that I have to charge the bike every week or so.
How do I rewire it so that it will only draw power when the bike is running?

I'm wondering if I were to have earned say $2000 or so from the buying and selling of stocks, do I need to pay taxes on that at a local level?

2 AnswersInvesting7 years agoBest steering damper/stabilizer I can get without spending too much (budget)?
I recently bought a 2002 yamaha r1 and my first day riding it and testing out the acceleration I had a pretty bad tank slapper. I Managed to save it, and it's been fine since, but I don't want that happening again ever and am not going to be pulling on the accelerator much until I get a steering damper to prevent that from occurring. I'm getting it inspected to see if there's anything going on with the tires/frame/forks, but I'll be getting a steering damper regardless of what comes up. I've read that they happen more often to light weight riders and I weight 130 so I'm feeling this is very likely to happen to me again if I don't buy one. That being said;
I'm wondering what is the best bet for a quality for money steering damper I can find for this bike?
Similarly, what would be the best budget steering damper I could buy for this bike? (still works well but definitely on the cheaper side)
And finally, what are the differences between a low-end steering damper and a top notch steering damper?
I will mostly be using this bike for street riding and am not sure I am ever really going to take it to a track... maybe some day but definitely won't be doing so any time soon.

6 AnswersMotorcycles7 years agoIf I live in WA state as a student & buy a vehicle here but am legally a PA resident what's the sales tax?
I'm a student in WA state and will be for another 2 and a half years and am considering buying a motorcycle from a private party here. My state of legal residence however is PA and have a PA driver's license and endorsement.
Will I have to pay WA state & local tax or PA state & local tax?
Also, will the vehicle have to be registered in WA?
Could I give it a PA license plate if I wanted?
I doubt it, but are there any other little known facts that I should take into consideration that might come up as a complication of this situation that I may not be aware of?
