Why no Jehovah's Witnesses Biblical scholars?

For a group that loves the Bible so much and loves to do personal study, why am I unable to find any Biblical scholars or Hebrew / Greek linguists among the Jehovah's Witnesses? I thought they were supposedly better informed than all other religions, so why aren't they leading the way translating dead sea scrolls or whatever else religious scholars do?

The New World Translation committee had no one fluent in Greek or Hebrew, yet they translated the King James Bible into the NWT Bible... Did Jehovah speak directly to these luminaries, informing the translation team that he wanted his name inserted over 300 times where it never existed previously?

Also, Jehovah's Witnesses love numerology always playing with dates as far as when Armageddon will come. How many times have the JW's given false prophecy and wrong Armaddeon dates? Maybe a half-dozen times at least?

Update:

@ Anonymous - As a Jehovah's Witness I am sure you have no ability to answer and instead must copy and paste from other sources. I have no clue what you are talking about. I didn't bring up clergy vs. the laity at all in this question. So thanks for answering a question that was not actually posed.

Update 2:

@ Hazzar Shu'Al - Unfortunately you have been blinded with lies. The committe consisted of Nathan H. Knorr, Fredrick W. Franz, Albert D. Schroeder, George Gangas, and Milton Henschel. Franz has a cursory knowledge of Greek, but enough to do a translation. There was no one fluent in Hebrew.

Many of them have a thorough grasp of the theology promulgated by their Governing Body, though not so many of them are up to speed on the latest changes to that theology, or know the extent of the changes to their theology over the last 100 years or more.

Theos is the Greek word for God, so theology is the study of God. JWs pride themselves on having studied a great deal about God and they would claim that their studies are based four-square on what the Bible says about God. Nobody can get baptized as a JW without correctly answering around 60 questions on JW theology, after spending months studying JW books and magazines and going to their meetings. Those answers must stick to their leaders interpretations of the Bible.

This is rather different to the qualifications expected of their speakers back in 1916 as page 215 of their "Proclaimers" book shows. They had a list of 22 Verbi Dei Minister questions (VDM being short for the Latin which translates as Ministers of the Divine Word). "When the Society conferred the degree of Minister of the Divine Word, this did not mean that the individual was being ordained. It simply implied that the examining board in the Society's offices had reviewed the doctrinal development of the person, and to a reasonable extent his reputation, and concluded that he was worthy of being called a Minister of the Divine Word."

They do not offer any formal qualifications in theology and they quite despise the qualifications ordained clergy may have after years of study at theology college. If you asked any JW what systematic theology is, or what expository preaching is, few would be able to answer. And even their Governing Body and people on the Writing Committee have such scant knowledge of biblical languages that it is breathtaking that they would produce their own version of the Bible. But lack of qualifications never held the Watchtower Society back from anything. They simply claim that Jehovah is directing the Governing Body and nothing more is needed.

    scholar:

    [ ˈskälər ]

noun: scholar · plural noun: scholars

a specialist in a particular branch of study, especially the humanities; a distinguished academic:

This can be applied to anyone, whether or not they are recognized for their studies. I am a Theology Scholar in that I study all sorts of religions. I may have accepted one, but that changes nothing.

So your initial question is an oxymoron, Jehovah's witnesses are scholars. As far a linguists in Hebrew and Greek, there are some out there who do study the ancient languages. You wont find much current names as the group remains anonymous, not for secretive, but because they do not want to give credit to themselves. Truth is, they are translating to the best of their abilities. More-so, there are non-witnesses who aid in the translation of the dead scrolls that have had some influence on more accurate translations. Some of the better known experts seem to agree on their translations. [obviously]

"The New World Translation committee had no one fluent in Greek or Hebrew, yet they translated the King James Bible into the NWT Bible." There is no evidence to support this claim and is false. They translated it directly form Greek and Hebrew and has had direct influence on the New world Translation. While you say there was no one fluent, I say you're wrong, there are a couple of fluent speakers.

Boiled down the letters, the dead languages are still being translated, even the more knowledgeable scholars cannot agree on the same renderings. So why pick on witnesses alone, when throughout history something like this has already been done? Its unfair to point out witnesses without pointing out those who have done the same thing.

Cultists don't like to put themselves out there, they may be questioned that way. Typically, if you question a jw that comes knocking, they'll give you the standard responses they've been taught; but if it's a question they haven't been taught an answer to, they'll typically leave.

I have study them and they do not brag about what holy spirit does for them.

I AM LEARNING NEW THINGS AND SO ARE YOU. ISN'T THE GREAT TEACHER AMAZING ?

AND HAVING THE HOLY SPIRIT IS BETTER THAN ANY "THEOLOGY COLLEGE" THAT TEACHES FALSE RELIGION LIKE THE TRINITY DOCTRINE.

Most Reverend, Right Reverend, Father, Most Holy Father, Rabbi, His Eminence, His Excellency, His Holiness, His All-Holiness—these are some of the titles that distinguish the clergy of various religions from the laity. The separation of the clergy from the laity is common to many religions, but is the arrangement from God, or is it a human tradition? More important, does it have God’s approval?

“IN THE New Testament and during the early apostolic times there is no mention of clergy or laity,” wrote professor of theology Cletus Wessels. The Encyclopedia of Christianity states: “There gradually arose a differentiation into clergy as the officeholders and the laity as the rest . . . ‘Ordinary’ church members now came to be seen as an unqualified mass.” That differentiation became prominent during the third century C.E.—more than two hundred years after Jesus Christ!

Because they're not allowed to do any real study. All they can do is parrot what the governing body told them to believe about the Bible.
