What is a motherboard? Should I return this laptop?
I bought a laptop and within 36 hours the speakers started to fade away. So I contacted Dell and we did a bunch of testing and they said that it was the motherboard. I then went to my school IT and they showed me the motherboard.
Should I return this laptop if its the motherboard? They said they can replace it but is it worth it? If I don't fix it will it affect other aspects of the laptop? What exactly does a motherboard do anyways?

The motherboard is like your skeleton, without your skeleton your heart and other important body parts may not work correctly. Your bones are what keeps you up-right and everything in place within your body, so the bones (motherboard) of a laptop are what hold all the hardware in place. It also acts as the main unit (similar to your body's vein system) that passes information from one part of the computer to the next.
As for the first part of your question...
Since you took your lappy to an IT specialist and they opened your laptop and removed hardware, your warranty with Dell has become void. So even if you did return it for a refund or replacement, they cannot give you anything or do anything for you. This is the downfall of not using the manufacturers for repairs and such.

Hi Carrie,
I am from Dell Social Media team. The mother board in computer system is a chipset of electronic components in an integrated circuit that manages the data flow between the processor, memory and peripherals. Once the system board is replaced the issues should be sorted. We would suggest you to discuss the issue with the technical support team and they will offer the best services.

Please return that Dell immediately and get a decent brand.
Imho, Toshiba is the best. HP and Acer in a distant second and Dell didn't even make the gate. Oh and don't even think about getting a Sony. Way worse than Dell
