Is it possible to load Windows 7 onto Alienware M5700 Model P71EN1 computer?

I have Alienware M5700 Model P71EN1 computer that was given to me.

I am in the process in replacing the missing CD Drive.

This units Hard drive had been wiped prior to be given to me.

The unit comes with Windows XP; but before I load that onto the unit, can Windows 7 be loaded onto the laptop?

Will the units systems handle that type of ungrade?

    I don't see why not. You'd want to find out if the CPU on the computer can support 64-bit operations so you know which edition (32-bit or 64-bit) to install.
