Old Pc Build questions.?
My Dad has three old Windows 95 pcs in the basement and they all work. I was wondering if I could combine parts and make a good decent pc. I have some expieence with stuff like this. One of them is a dell xps d333 another is a compaq deskpro 6350 and the third is unknow( it was a custom build server from my dads work). I was thinking of adding all the hd to one and seeing if I can up the ram. Maybe add 2 processors to one. Also iv read online that some computers have ram limits. I have some 1gb sticks laying around would it bebpossible to use one of those as say 384mb ram(xps d333 max)? If you need any specifications jusy let me know. I know its probaly not worth saving a computer but my parents would never let me get a new computer. Also if it helps we have a dell inspiron(don't know model I think 560) that dorsnt work at all. I know its a diffrent type of motherboard but any parts from there salvageable like maybe usb ports? Any help is appreciated.

What is a decent PC to you? To me it's something that is used for everyday things I didn't bother looking up those computers. You can't have two processors on a stock motherboard in this case. Some motherboards have a limit on how much ram it has. To check the limit, simply search up the brand name of the motherboard, than the model number. You're better off building a new computer, using parts found on craigslist. If not, you could probably get away with it and build a mini media center. Or you could go with building a new pc, use the stock old pc case, and make it into a "sleeper".

Before starting the project look online of each pc for the specs the model no is on the back of the pc also dell uses a service tag in which info specs of their pcs , windows 95 is no longer used it 's hard to tell if your isp provider support windows 95 , what is really trying to get is info on the mobo what they can support as far as ram, hdd, can't go with these newer gpu besides pci-e slots wasn't used when windows 95 came out again do a little research before starting this project

First off, you only have so many RAM slots in a PC, and you must make sure they're the right frequency. Secondly, I doubt any of those motherboards have two processor sockets, and even if they do, I doubt they have the same kind of socket - you need the same kind of processor if you have a dual-socket motherboard to use both sockets. The custom-built server is probably your best bet for performance, otherwise don't bother. Maybe put Linux on them and re-purpose them around the house, if anything.

Old computers all had ram limits. You can't add two processors to motherboards that old. You won't be able to find a decent processor for them either. They won't recognise 1 gb of ram, so you'll be wasting your time.
You can cobble together a machine with the various parts and run a decent Linux machine. You won't be able to run a supported version of Windows.

An old Win 95 PC will never be 'decent'. At best you might be able to run Win XP on one.

It would have problems even running a recent, stripped down Linux distro (unless you remove the GUI). If what you mean by "decent" is a use as a gateway or for playing around with networking or a hobby, then that's pretty much the only use it will have...
