How are the US and European imperialism part of the origins of the groups al-Qaeda and ISIS?
Is the US quest for oil a cause of the anti West movement. Didn't the US help to elect officials in the middle east that were compatible with the US. If so who were they and for what country.
Anything helps with learning about the history/root origins of al-Qaeda and ISIS.
Please don't tell me about current events with ISIS or how the CIA caused ISIS, I want to learn about the base origins for anti-West hate.

The Taliban (and eventually Al Qaeda) started in Afghanistan during the Cold War. At the time, the Soviet Union occupied Afghanistan and the Taliban were attempting to oust them. The US wanted to weaken the soviet military so they did it by sending stinger missiles (small shoulder-mounted anti-aircraft rockets) to the Taliban. This turned the conflict around instantly. The soviets could not longer rely on air superiority to control Afghanistan and eventually the war helped bankrupt them. The Taliban was at the time led by bin laden who would go on to form Al Qaeda from inside Afghanistan. ISIS is a little different. After the US invaded Iraq, they were tasked with starting a new government: they decided they couldn't use generals who were once loyal to saddam because they were complicit in his crimes, so all Baathist generals and other ranking soldiers were fired. These now unemployed military men went on to form Al Qaeda in Iraq, which is now know as ISIS

Yes US involved itself in Iraq against Saddam Hussain claiming nuclear devolpment activity removing saddam they placed a shia ruler another (muslim sect) this caused the sunni (another sect ) to rise in fury forming the ISIS. Make no mistake ISIS has nothing to do with Islam it is kind of an armed struggle for power nothing else by the way no nuclear projects were proven and it was discovered that the invasion was a mistake
