does anyone here actually read the whole question?

i was up in the middle of the night, upset because we were forced by law enforcement to kill our cat yesterday when we were trying to fight for his life, so i posted a question asking if anyone knew if it was lawful in florida for them to demand we kill our pet.

instead of answering my question with lawful or thoughtful answers, i was bludgeoned for my back story explaining our situation. the cat was already dead when i posted the question. i only wanted to know because the officer kept trying to push us into adopting another cat and even left a form for us to fill out to do so, even though we were deeply upset, crying and telling him that we did not ever want another pet and that the cat we had was one we had rescued 10 years ago and that we never wanted to go through what we were going through at loosing him again. but still he kept insisting.

so i am suspicious of something being amiss here because when he came to the door, he said "i understand you have a cat here who has a broken back". BROKEN BACK???? where did he get that idea from. it turns out the vet at the P.A.W.S. clinic told him the cat had a broken back. he had jaundice which we suspect was due to thyroid problems but no one, not even at the free clinics we took him to, would do tests to see if that was the case. they just insisted we needed to kill him. that vet told us that he had a 50/50 chance of recovery, but refused to help him. so instead she sent the officer to our door with a false report.

Update:

we were so distraught that we had to kill our cat. that was the only thing this "free clinic" offered to do for him for free. so we did that. then i came on here to ask if anyone knew if what they did was legal. everyone blasted me and accused me of being an animal abuser.

so even though i was in tears from the loss of our beloved pet, i looked up florida animal law myself. and it turns out that ACCORDING TO FLORIDA STATE LAW, THEY HAVE TO GIVE US 30 DAYS for the pet to improve or be put down.

Update 2:

we were given one hour in which to make this horrible decision for our sweetheart of a cat. we didn't even have time to contact our granddaughter who is actually his owner but for whom he has been caring for him due to her step mother's pregnancy and allergies. nothing.

so all of the posters were wrong. we were supposed to have been given 30 days by law. something is amiss with this whole thing with them refusing to treat the cat and then the officer saying he had a broken back. i suspect we

Update 3:

have been the victims of the very rampant florida scams and lawlessness and intend to have that clinic investigated...the officer as well, since he tried so hard to push another cat on us. i know something is not right and will be requesting an autopsy of my cat to find out the real problem. i have a friend who is a legal secretary who is getting her lawyers to help us out here. thanks for nothing all you abusive yahoo posters.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss... Pets become a part of the family and I can't imagine what you're going through. People on yahoo answers don't always have the right answer, most of them are just average people and they jump to conclusions and are judgemental so not often very helpful. Sometimes there are answers that need to be sought out somewhere more reliable than here. Again, I'm sorry for the situation you were in. All you can do is try to spread the word so that it doesn't have to happen to anyone else.

    Yes

You denied the cat any and all vet care, whined and cried and begged for FREE vet care since you were too cheap and lazy to take the cat to a vet and pay for said vet care then Ac rightfully stepped in and had the cat put down since you refused to pay for any vet care which is illegal.

You made it clear you thought you were entitled to free vet care and didn't see anything wrong at all with letting the cat suffer horribly, refused to have the cat put down and refused to surrender the cat. Denying the cat vet care becouse you couldn't get it free since you were too cheap to pay for it is illegal.

I hope you get taken to court

Cats cannot legally be considered pets, and so people cannot legally own them. they are considered wild animals by law.

too long to read, but the question itself appears "prejudicial", so I know it won't make any sense.
