Magical girl fans: what would you like to see in a magical girl series?
I'm currently plotting one, and I would like some random ideas that I can throw against the walls of my brain.
It's a magical girl warrior series, in which it's exploring the life of a veteran magical girl who gained powers due to her having a capacity for magic about a year and a half ago. She has to guard a magical fountain, which is the gateway for mystic energy to get to earth, both good energy and evil. It's going to be on the darker side. Not as dark as Madoka, but definitely darker than what I've seen of Pretty Cure and Sailor Moon.

What kind of magical girl series are we talking about here?
Personally, I like magical girl series that don't typically conform to the traditional type of magical girl series (i.e. Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tokyo Mew Mew), where everything is flower and rainbows and the girls defeat the evil foe every episode.
I like series which challenge the perception of what constitutes being a "magical girl", perhaps with a darker and more consistent storyline (think Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica or Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, maybe even Kill la Kill if that counts as "magical girl").
That said, every magical girl series should probably have:
- Cool transformation sequences
- Each magical girl has a set of powers unique to her, though it doesn't necessarily need to be restricted to a single concept (e.g. one magical girl doesn't necessarily need to only have fire powers, though each girl should have her own "theme" around which her powers are based off of)
- (Optionally) a magical animal which aids (or doesn't) the girls grow into and use their powers
- (Optionally) a reasonable explanation as to why enemies don't just attack the girls while transforming (be creative)
- (Optionally) a magical boy, which introduces a complex relationship between interaction with the girls

I'd love to meet a magical girl. One that knows when to stop talking
