    The Sultan had them dragged over the Galata isthmus on a road of greased logs so that they could get

    behind the big boom chain that was keeping them out of the Golden Horn,the main harbour of the city.

    This forced the Byzantines to deploy some of their limited manpower to defend the sea walls of the city from Ottoman attack.

    My understanding is that I heard they were dragged overland so they could get into the harbor blocked by a huge metal chain. The harbor's proper name was the Golden Horn.

    they made a floating bridge around the Golden Horn and enabled an attack on the water side of the city as well.
