How do I get a job with the government?

I have been on usajobs.gov several times and I am so intimidated by all of the criteria and qualifications. Can anyone offer advise on how to fill out applications are what they are looking for your resume to say?

Have a "canned" application ready. Then, for EVERY job you want to apply to, go into that application and tailor it to the requirements of the job. The hard part is trying to figure out what buzzwords they are looking for. Try to read the qualifications a few times before changing the application - as much as possible, use the terms the posting uses. For example, the following qualification is from a Program Analyst job:

Developing and presenting recommendations based on analysis and evaluation of administrative or organizational functions.

Keywords include analysis, evaluation, organizational functions. You would want to make sure your application says something like:

    Duties:

Analyzes data pertaining to organizational goals and performance and recommends changes to current procedures and policies to ensure that programs continuously improve. Over the past 5 years, recommendations have led to productivity improvements of 5% annually. blah blah blah...

I work at a vs hospital, government job. Try apply for something entry level, it will give you the opportunity to move around and move up the ladder. They will teach you a lot of things once your in. Try applying for a job at a canteen in a veterans hospital, or an ems worker

I'd call them up and see if you qualify. Nothing wrong with a phone conversation.
