Thoughts on what Antonio Cromartie's words to Richard Sherman would be?

I'm definitely behind Cromartie 100%. No more covering 2's and 3's, then considering yourself the "best."

-Cromartie

"I would tell him, 'Go follow the number one receiver. Follow him around for a whole entire game, let's see what you can do.'

"Darrelle Revis has done that his whole career," Cromartie continued. "I've done that, Patrick Peterson has done it, Joe Haden has done it. (Sherman is) the only defensive back who hasn't. So there's no point in critiquing him. If you wanna label yourself as the number one, the best cornerback in the NFL, follow the best guy on every single team. His whole thing will be, 'Well, we don't have to do that. I got my trust in the other corner on the other side.' That's not the point. If you wanna consider yourself the best, the best do what the best do and they follow around the best."

To be fair, the best receiver rarely lines up on Sherman's side and they never move Sherman around. That being said, I would like to see how Sherman does in a system where he doesn't cover a zone, chases around a top WR, and doesn't have 2 of the 5 best safeties in the NFL there to cover for him. He can shut down a zone, but I want to see him shut down a WR now.

The Seahawks style of D works and they're not going to change it just because some players from other teams challenged Sherman. Teams are doing themselves a disservice when they put a 2 or 3 WR on Sherman's side. The QB often won't even look to his side and allow the safeties (both all pros) to cheat to the other side more.

You have to understand that Revis and Sherman have very different skill sets. Sherman isn't as fast as Revis, so it's harder for him to cover the fastest number one receivers. However, he's elite on the deep ball, which is where Revis isn't quite as good. And Sherman has always been great at covering ANY receiver. Look at his stats compared to Revis. Sherman has 24 interceptions in 4 years. Revis has 23 in 7.

@Kaira interceptions doesn't determine how great a corner back is. Deion doesn't have a lot career picks but he's considered the best at his position. I'll say QB rating, completion percentage, and pass break ups are better measures of how great a corner back really is. You can get an interception off deflection. It's just a cooky measure I believe

That it basically means nothing. CB's are a part of the defensive scheme and where they line up is dictated by that scheme. Cromartie knows this, and if anything is simply trying to stir the pot knowing the scheme that the Seahawks play in.
