he text me saying his mate just died in front of him and when I read it this Morning I didn't really take it in properly. I tried to call him and text him but he won't answer? Does he want space?

He's in mourning. He needs HUMAN INTERACTION. Texting is not this. emails are not this. deFacebook is definitely ever ever not this. Go to him. Hold him in your arms, let him vent to you, and reaffirm your love for him.
Anyone can throw some ascii characters over a digital network... but not everyone can hold someone in their arms.

Yes, he definitely wants space. Or to go to space. Or to be spaced. Any way you slice it, you're not getting ahold of him anytime soon. Have you considered going over and checking on him??
