Is it Logical to Say the Confederate Flag is Offensive, and Also Say the Civil War was NOT about Slavery?

Update:

I hear many people debate the meaning of the Civil War. Some say it was about slavery others say states rights.

My question is if the Civil War was about states rights how can the Confederate Flag be offensive.

Update 2:

Simple answers what was the reason for the Civil War, and is the Confederate Flag offensive?

Because it wasn't about State's rights.

    It was about slavery.

    No.

What it stands for to some people is offensive.

It itself is just a symbol for whatever people project on it.

Saying the civil war is not about slavery is like saying pancakes are not about flour. Try leaving it out and see what you cook up.

The Civil War was America's bloodiest conflict. The unprecedented violence of battles such as Shiloh, Antietam, Stones River, and Gettysburg shocked citizens and international observers alike. Nearly as many men died in captivity during the Civil War as were killed in the whole of the Vietnam War. Hundreds of thousands died of disease. Roughly 2% of the population, an estimated 620,000 men, lost their lives in the line of duty. Taken as a percentage of today's population, the toll would have risen as high as 6 million souls.

The Civil war was an incredible waste of human lives, like most wars.

Surely slavery would have ended without this conflict. It was an idea who's time had passed.

Rather than kill 2% of the population surely abolitionists could have achieved their goals through peaceful means.

If you believe the civil war was solely about slavery, you would be wrong. At the time, it was about bringing the two countries together, to form what we know today - the north also had slavery, lots of it - so the war was not just about slavery

    Its only offensive to idiots

It was about states rights, which included slavery

it's come up because of black problems in some states and blacks want to complain about something so they see that flag as offensive because they see it to be about slavery (and see it as oppressive, yet they were freed, so go figure).

Remember that they rioted and burned down places in Chicago because of "hands up don't shoot", which by the way that statement was never said but they made everyone believe it did.

They just want to stir up something.

The confederate flag is offensive to all real patriots, and the south actually did secede to keep their slaves.

    1) Yes, it is logical

    2) It was about mostly about slavery.

The war could have been avoided if Lincoln had just allowed Democrat states to own slaves. But he didn't, and so there was war.

Because that state right cons don't like to talk about was the "right" to keep slavery legal. The south seceded because they feared the north was going to free their slaves and give them the same rights as white people.
