Smoking during 1st trimester?

I just found out today that I am pregnant. I've never had regular periods and I'm not sure when my last missed period should of been. I have been experiencing breast tenderness, constant nausea, vomiting, and increased hunger. Based on that alone the woman at the Clinic thinks I must be around 6-8 weeks. I have a GP appointment on Monday and will also be buying a good pregnancy week indicator just to see if the estimate is right.

Basically, I've always smoked weed, but I don't drink or smoke cigarettes. I have smoked weed every day without knowing I was pregnant. Of course I am quitting straight away!! But could this have any negative implications for the baby at this point? I feel a bit worried. Out of the approximate 6-8 weeks, there was only one week (when I was on holiday) where I didn't smoke at all.

Thanks!

Just to save you some money: the pregnancy indicators don't go higher than 3+ (weeks since conception) and are mostly a gimmick, no more accurate than the clinic's guess. You'll get a dating scan that will give you the most accurate answer.

About your question: there is just not enough research to give you a clear answer. Many mothers who smoke weed have perfectly healthy kids, but there are some indications that long term use may lead to issues later in the baby's life. Nothing you can do about it now except keep to your plan to stop completely. It's not worth the unknown risk to keep smoking, but it's also pretty pointless to beat yourself up over something you did when you didn't know you were pregnant, and that may have no ill effect anyway.

Marijuana is actually a medication that is the only thing that keeps some moms (like myself) alive during pregnancy. I had HG and was hospitalized multiple times in my first trimester. I could not have Zofran or any other nausea medication due to medication allergies. My team of doctors (general practitioner, natropath, and midwife) all decided that it was in the best interest of me and my son to continue using THC into my pregnancy. (I stopped smoking around 15 weeks because I got bronchitis and could not handle it but still drank tea). I am 25 weeks and starting to wean myself off as my pregnancy is easing up a bit. You are fine and your baby will be fine. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about this.

Well, I'm glad that you recognize that you need to stop now that you know you are pregnant. Congrats by the way! And I was worried when I found out I was pregnant. My husband and I had been going out and getting drinks on the regular. But so far I am 24 weeks and 3 days and baby girl is healthy as ever. Your baby should be fine!

Your baby will be fine. Lots of women smoke weed and have healthy babies. Children born to women who smoke weed do have higher rates of learning disorders and upper respiratory infections. However these problems are more than likely the result of many weed smokers just being crappy moms rather than from exposure to weed itself.

probably not. usually it's more long term use that causes it. or the potency of the drug.
