Senior Veteran home air conditioning replacement assistance?

I'm trying to find out if there are any government grants or agencies that help senior veterans on a fixed social security income pay for a replacement of an air conditioning unit on a house. Its been around 100 degrees and his AC went out and is irreparable. The best price I could find was around 8 thousand which is well out of his price range. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can suggest.

In Seattle, WA they opened cooling stations so people without air conditioning can get out of the heat they are not open at night but it isn't that hot at night.

This man might be able to get a reverse mortgage to pay for home repairs. He may be stuck with window units for the rooms he uses most. I have them for my bedroom and den but my boyfriend only has one in his dining room.

Many things we did before air conditioners were invented still work. I used to take several cold showers a day in Florida and swim in the ocean when it rained often laid wet from a shower with a fan on and only went out in rain or at night. In Michigan we sat outside all summer under a shade tree. This gentlemen might want to move to a small apartment so it cheaper to cool and no house to repair.
