Where are the commercial advantages to car manufactures from F1 these days?

The introduction of Stop Lights was the last one I can remember.

Should F1 be relpaced by H1 (racing hovercraft?)

don't be silly. racing still develops a ton of technology. mainly in materials engineering with things like carbon fiber.

formula 1 also develops new production methods.

most recently, Mercedes used the technology that they developed for the Formula 1 turbo in the Mercedes AMG GT. by placing the turbo in between the cylinder banks they can reduce packaging size and reduce turbo lag.

the hybrid systems were also used by Ferrari and Mclaren in their P1 and LaFerrari road cars.

there's still a lot of work done in formula 1 that can apply to road cars.
