I recently answered a question asking how to download copyrighted material. I got a violation but the asker didn't. Why?

The violation reporting of questions and answers is separate, so enough people reported you, but did not report the question for some reason (did you report it). So sometimes one will get violated and not the other. The asker may have even reported you. It may also be people did not think the question a violation, we would need the exact context. Last, when answers are reported, the question is not reviewed unless it is also reported.

Answering a question telling someone how to download copyrighted material would be a violation. Not answering, like saying "What isn't legal" is also a violation for a non answer. Obvious answer is you were reported, the person asking was not. No idea why not.

I suppose also that if someone asks how to stream something without downloading, and I point out that you can't stream without downloading, that is a violation, or can be reported as one, and the answer would be deleted!? What about the CG's that state an account can be suspended for breaching said CG's? Is it my fault that people are too stupid to know that downloading something does not necessarily mean it gets saved to the hdd?

Somebody reported your answer, and it got removed. They may not have reported the asker.
