Is my 4 month old kitten in heat?

She is 4 month today and in the last week she has been acting a little like she s in heat. She has suddenly started meowing for no reason and will just walk around the house meowing constantly all day. This started about 5 days ago. Also she is being really affectionate towards me and is suddenly following me around and will always want a cuddle. These are the only symptoms she has displayed. I tried firmly stroking down her back and when i got to her tail she meowed. However she has not done the frog pose and hasn t lifted her tail to one side. Is she in heat or not? If she is I m going to have to wait to get her spayed because my vet doesn t spay cats while they are in heat!

She could be - and needs to be spayed. Dogs cannot be spayed in heat but cats can. Perhaps you need to find another vet who is more up to date on cat procedures - she could have been spayed at 2 1/2 pounds or about 10 weeks, and certainly at 3 months, and then neither of you would be going through this. I've had many cats spayed in heat - the vet just needs to take a bit of extra care when tying off the veins and arteries, but a good vet would be taking that extra care anyway. Call the vet and take her in - by the time you get a spay appointment for her she won't be in heat anyway.

she very well could be. A cat can go into heat as early as four months old.
