Cecil the lion, ethics on meat-eating/veganism?

What are some better arguments with regards to the debating of food/animal rights. I ve seen people argue about how you can eat meat and have ethics (I agree) but vegans say that you can t and you must conform to their ways only if you truly care about anything at all.

So what better arguments are there against vegans that doesn t resort to just the same old vitriol?

Why argue? Vegans have a right to their opinion....which is what ethics are based on.

I find the best counter to most vegan arguments are facts. I recently saw where a vegan was admonishing a new vegan to never, ever make an argument based on science....to use emotions instead. I found that rather telling.

You can't win arguments with highly opiniated people. But you can get in some scientific facts....like researchers say meat made us human, there has never in recorded history a vegan country, civilization or society, that the vegan diet is incomplete and requires man made supplements and many more. ...references found online.

I figure for every opinionated vegan that I respond to here, there are more fence setters reading the posts. They're who I‘m aiming for. In the US, 4 out of 5 of all kinds of vegetarians will give up the diet....most within a year. So don't get all worked up. The person you're arguing with today will likely be eating meat again soon.

The whole Cecil the lion has nothing to do with being vegan and everything to do with being an idiot. That shooter was an experienced hunter and had to know they were luring the lion to its death. The "guides" should CLEARLY have known that they were in an area where a protected animal was living.

There is a lot of blame to be tossed around with this incident but not on meat eaters. This wasn't a meat hunt, it was a trophy hunt, plain and simple.

The only argument I can think of is the fact that Cecil was killed purely for sport and his body was wasted, while livestock is killed for nourishment, and not wasted. I still do think it is hypocritical though to place value on one animal's life, while seeking out the death of another (buying/killing animals for meat). It seems that, to humans, an animal's life only matters if it is an animal that is not normally consumed where they live. In the US, for example, we treat dogs as pets, and are horrified when somebody kills them, but in some east Asian countries, dogs are killed for human consumption. Yet in Hindu countries, the cow is a respected and sacred animal, and we Americans kill them by the thousands everyday with barely a thought. If you don't respect all life, you really do have to ask yourself the question, "why is this life more important than that one"?

So, you are asking for arguments AGAINST vegans. There are SO many evil people in this world and you are mad at Vegans? Well then fine then, I'll give you an argument against them, I myself WISH I had the maturity and purity of soul to be true to myself at such young ages no less, to be true to MYSELF and not the wishes of those that surrounded me. Friends , family etc... to make the decision I wasn't going to foul myself with it.

I became one at nearly 60. After eating meat mywhole life. We didn't have computers in the old days. I didn't know the sheer numbers of people who are vegetarian and vegan. Or I wouldn't have felt so alone. I didn't have the guts to stand up and be a good person, cruel farming practices - meat dairy wise or health - wise .

I now see the numbers of vegans in the world and it truly is staggering to see how many know the truth. Millions and millions. Well I'll go to me death bed knowing I was true to me-self the last years of my life. (little Irish add there haha).

And my daughters and son are all raising their family vegan. Some went before me and the others after. HUGE family of vegans now ha ha. It's truly heart warming and we all inspire many.. Brings tears to me-eyes. And we are all thin and in tip-top shape !! Top a the mornin to ya !!

This situation should focus more on the environmental dangers of having so many animals endangered and how quickly natural habitat is being depleted. The dentist did kill an animal on the endangered species list after all.

I just find people with those arguments really hypocritical and ignorant. While I like the fact that they are trying to stand up for what's right and I have never questioned or hated on them for that but I also don't see how they can then disregard all of the other animals that are suffering for the sake of their taste buds.

@daisy Why don't you just let people go Vegan and experiment with their diet. The vegan diet has been great to me, best decision I made was to go vegan, it made me think about what I'm putting in me and my overall health. The same may go for others. Seems like you can't stand the fact that people are more ethical and healthier than you, or willing to make a change? Stop trying to control what people eat with your made up/cherry picked "facts".

You don't offer facts. You offer ignorance.

I choose not to argue about what to eat and what not to eat. My diet is none of your business, got it?
