My pc will not turn on?

Im currently diagnosing a problem with my ram, it is only showing 3 cards and there are 4 installed, so i first truned off the pc and made sure they were all plugged in, then i turned it back on, no change, so i turned it off and took one out to see if made a change, and when i turned it back on it blinked once, fans and lights came on for a second, then it died, so i put the ram card back in and pressed the power button and it felt depressed, like it was already turned on, so i pulled the power chord and put it back in, it blinked once, lights and fans came on for a second, then it died exactly like before and the power button doesnt work, it feels like it should when its already on. Its an hp pavilion a1310y windows xp.

Does the power button seem to be physically broken? I'm going to assume that it isn't, for this answer. If it DOES seem to be physically broken, you should look into replacing it before following the instructions below.

With the computer plugged in and the side panel off, touch bare metal on the computer case to ground yourself of static electricity. Avoid working on carpet if possible.

Now, take out all of those RAM sticks you've got installed, and put them in a safe place.

Once you've done that, *closely* follow HP's instructions for clearing your BIOS settings, under the section "Clear RTC RAM (3-pin CLRTC)": http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-a1...

If you're having trouble finding the CLRTC jumper, this may help you: http://grabilla.com/05a0d-bc6a7a57-9b3d-4c69-89cf-...

Now, taking care to position it right so that it fits correctly, insert ONE stick of RAM back in your computer in the first (leftmost) DDR2 RAM slot, and turn it on. If it succeeds, put another stick of RAM in. If it fails, take the stick you tried aside, noting that it might be bad.

    I hope this helps you.
