Is this sound advice?... Never aproach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear and a woman with extreme PMS from ANY direction.?

Phrases/sayings/quotes are virtually ALWAYS metaphors and are not meant to be taken literally.

My personal interpretation:

It's in the context of one man saying to another (yes ladies, this is a guy's thing) and it simply means "I don't have the faintest clue how to deal with a cranky woman".

Update 2:

It may have nothing to do with PMS whatsoever, but if it does then that's just coincidence.

PMS in this metaphor just describes inexplicable, irrational behaviour, because from the man's perspective that's what he observes.

    You can approach a horse from the rear. In horse stables you always see a lot of kittens and puppies playing around horses, kittens climbing up their tails and the horse will just stand there placidly.
