Who supports gerrymandering?

I'm just honestly curious, does anyone Republican or Democrat (and both parties do it) support this practice of gerrymandering, and if not, why is it allowed to continue?

lol the dumocraps are screaming loudly about how the evil republicans gerrymander--of course they fail to mention that in many states--they had been gerrymandering districts for nearly a century. What it boils down to with the dumocraps-is--as long as we were doing it-it was okay--when the republicans do it--it is evil and terrible

Not the Supreme Court. They rules last year that "citizens" can demand independent panels to draw district boundaries in Arizona and that this isn't a job guaranteed for lawmakers. From NPR:

U.S. states' efforts to counter extreme gerrymandering won a victory Monday, as the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a bipartisan Arizona panel that draws the state's districts. The court's vote was 5-4; Chief Justice John Roberts dissented, as did Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote the opinion for the majority, in which her citations included James Madison writing in The Federalist Papers.

"The people of Arizona turned to the initiative to curb the practice of gerrymandering," Ginsburg wrote, "and, thereby, to ensure that Members of Congress would have 'an habitual recollection of their dependence on the people.' "

Ginsburg continued, quoting a 2005 gerrymandering case: "In so acting, Arizona voters sought to restore 'the core principle of republican government,' namely, 'that the voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.' "

I just think it's funny that Gerrymandering was a non-issue until Democrats got their collective clocks cleaned in 2010.

Hell, a great many never even heard the term until they saw it on Daily Kos lol. Then act like Democrats didn't do it for the last 200 years.

Drawing district lines has it's pitfalls, but also it's benefits

Populations change. As it does, district lines need to be redrawn to provide a fair distribution of representation. Can you imagine the clusterfuck if the boundaries of every district were determined by a bipartisan committee? It would take forever! This may not be the best way to go about it, but it's the best we can do and the affect is really not that great in the end. At the federal level, states vote as a whole, not as districts. They don't say, 6 out of 10 districts went to X. They apply the total votes, irrespective of district. Only state elections are affected by this redistricting and when you get to that level? it is peanuts.

I do not support gerrymandering. That should be a bumper sticker with a really confusing shape.

It's allowed because the Constitution gives the power to redraw House district lines to the states. It's ludicrous to assume that the states are NOT going to redraw the lines to give advantage to their respective parties.

It's not a question of good or bad. As you rightly point out -- both political parties do it. It's just a fact of political life, and there's really nothing more you can say about it.

No one with a brain. It is understood that redistricting has to happen to accommodate changes in populations, but districts like this are just ridiculous.

It continues because the Republicans push for it... it's their only way to get elected.

Unfortunately, people vote Republican because Republicans are "tough" in that they are jerks who scream a lot.
