Tips on meeting people at the DFAC?

I just got my first station and i was the only person from my tech school who got it so im here alone. It in italy so i want to experience everything. But im a bit of an introvert.

Ive been here a week and met a lot of people but havent really made friends. I dont see a lot of people walking around base unless theyre about to start working.

The main way i see to meet people would be at the DFAC during dinner hours. I usually eat in the Dfac during breakfast and lunch to see if anyone come in but its mostly NCOs. But at night i take it back to my dorm so i can eat it and watch a movie or something but i noticed this is when a few other people are in there all sitting alone. My biggest thing is idk how to introduce myself without it being weird. The girls might think im trying to flirt (i dont know how not to flirt with girls) and the guys might think im kinda off. Plus im not sure if they just wanna eat their food and leave.

Any tips on what i could say when i sit down or something?
