Why did God create atheists?

There is a famous story told in Chasidic literature that addresses this very question. The Master teaches the student that God created everything in the world to be appreciated, since everything is here to teach us a lesson.

One clever student asks, "What lesson can we learn from atheists? Why did God create them?"

The Master responds, "God created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all - the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs an act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that God commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his acts are based on an inner sense of morality. And look at the kindness he can bestow upon others simply because he feels it to be right."

"This means," the Master continued, "that when someone reaches out to you for help, you should never say 'I pray that God will help you.' Instead for the moment, you should become an atheist, imagine that there is no God that can help, and say 'I will help you.'"

Yes, I too imagine there are no gods. The difference is, god believers figure I'm going to hell. To comment on your question, an atheist who is also a humanist generally feels respect for himself and others. No gods needed.

God didn't create atheists. So your question is built upon false premises.

    Atheists created atheists

    God is imaginary...

Everyone is born an atheist = no belief in gods

Theism/atheism are positions on belief only...

*Not* how someone came to that position.

God created Adam and Eve with no imperfections. Had they obeyed God and not eaten of the one fruit out of the whole garden, they would still be alive and in perfect health, although nearly 7,000 years old. Our original parents were given what is called "free will" but what happened in the garden? Did Adam use his free will in keeping God's law? He lost his blessing of everlasting life, not only for himself, but for all of his offspring. Then his son Cain, even though God warned him of his hateful intentions toward his brother Abel, used his free will and killed Abel. God always warns us of consequences of our bad actions. Man, not God, makes himself what he becomes. Whatever kind of childhood we may have had could very well affect our lives as adults. See what the Bible tells us about people who do things that God condemns.1 Corinthians 6:9 "Or do you not know that unrighteous people will not inherit God's Kingdom? Do not be misled. Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who submit to homosexuality, (10) thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God's Kingdom. (11) And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean; you have been sanctified; you have been declared righteous in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God." Did you notice that those who became Christians changed their ways to become Christ's followers? Because of the Bible, many atheists have become lovers of God and are preaching "the good news of God's Kingdom" side by side with Jehovah's Witnesses. Wise King Solomon had something to say about the reading of many books. Ecclesiastes 12:11-14 You can learn much about the Bible from the international website, jw.org and Bible Teachings > Bible Questions Answered. Yeah, you should help people when you can, because if you're waiting on god to do it, you'll be waiting a looooong time.
