Dodgy ears?

I have weird hearing and I want to know if it's a recognised thing or has a name or even if it's just me.

I can hear individual things fine, but more than one source of sound makes it difficult to hear either. It's not really a question of volume. For example, if I'm standing in the kitchen talking to someone and then put the kettle on, I then can't understand what that person is saying even though the kettle isn't loud. I can sometimes tune in but it's a real effort and I generally then just move closer to the person. Is it my ears or my brain?

Please tell me I'm not alone...

I do that too. If there is another noise going on, its like my brain tries to concentrate on both so I have to move closer to the one I'm trying to listen to or turn down the other. It's actually gotten a lot worse.( But my hearing is weird anyways. I hear other pitches that most people can't.) But anyways, I don't think there is s name for it, honestly I haven't looked into it much. But you're not alone

There is a name for this, but I can't seem to remember what it's called. If you've had your hearing tested and everything is normal, then that means it's more of a psychological issue. If this problem is especially bothersome, you should talk it over with a good psychologist, preferably one who is trained in dealing with this issue. With the proper treatment it's possible to train your brain to ignore these irrelevant noises and focus on what you want to hear.

    Thats your brain, not ears.
