You can always Google terms like this:
wedding venue
In short, a venue is a location where *something* is held - it could be a concert, a ceremony, or anything else, for that matter. Wherever the Olympics are held, they talk about the swimming venue, or the skating venue- it's a place where something organized happens.
Once people started using the internet to look things up, the word venue started being used by people planning weddings, because it's used in business. Before that, you would only say the wedding was being held at the church or a function hall, and the reception would be at the function hall or restaurant following the ceremony. But now they say "venue" - but really, it's nothing more than a place, and someone usually pays to use it for their "event"...

Venue is a place an event is held. So there's a wedding venue and a reception venue, sometimes they are the same venue but often separate ones.

The venue can be where the location of the ceremony will be or the place where the reception is held.

If you are asking what a Venue is in general: it is the place the ceremony or reception is. Sometimes there are multiple venues.

If you know the bride or some one in the bridal party, ask them where they're having the reception or ceremony.
We can't read the bride's mind lol.

The venue is the place where the ceremony/reception is held. (i.e. a church, a garden, a hotel...)
