Have you ever considered what time period and especially, the language,Deuteronomy 22 was written in?
The English translations of the Bible are not exact. In fact, I have 2 friends who are translators for publishing companies, and they say that it is impossible to translate a language EXACTLY with all the nuances, meanings, and colloquialisms present in the language. Languages often may have one word that another word does not have a direct translation for, and therefore several words must be used to explain it. The Portuguese word, "saudagi" comes to mind. We do not have an English equivalent for this word.
In addition, the meaning can get lost, which is why there are multiple translations of the Bible and even of modern texts and novels. Heck, even Harry Potter has some differences between the British English version v.s. the American version.
Here is what one site said about the true meaning of the Hebrew text, now translated into "rape."
"This obligation is stipulated in Deuteronomy 22:28-29: “If a man finds a girl who is an unbetrothed virgin, an he LAYS HOLD OF HER and lies with her, and they are found, then the man lying down with her shall give to the girl’s father fifty pieces of silver, and she shall be his wife because he has humbled her; he may not put her away all his days.”
This is the literal translation of the Hebrew. Unfortunately, some commentators and Bible translations (Driver, Craigle, Rushdoony, New International Version) make the mistake of interpreting these words as referring to the use of force and thus to raping a virgin. Such a view is quite unacceptable, for a number of reasons. (1) This would lay a burden and penalty on the woman who had no part or consent in the act, which is as unfair and senseless as punishing the victim of attempted murder."

Nope, not at all. Rape a woman and rather than get married you're likely to find yourself arrested.

thats old testament, not new testament. and there is a distinction between the social rules of the time and our relationship with God. the Bible was not written in fantasy land. it had to deal with the society where the events took place.
