Are they scammers?

I work at a pharmacy, and a couple came to purchase some gift cards, they wanted to purchase 5 cards, with $500 each, they got mad when we told them they could only purchase them with cash or debit no credit, they acted hostile, and said they knew the district manager, and said they had spoken with him. Its weird out of all places they decided to go to a pharmacy & not a supermarket next door.

They tried to act as if they were rich by being stuck up, but I could tell they weren't because I know how rich people act, the only time people act like that is when they want to make themselves seem rich.

Sounds like your instincts were right. Scammers by the sound of it. When they said they had spoken to the District Manager, I would have said "Oh good, so you have the letter he would have given you with the code on then?" Useful to flush out the scammers! If they answer 'Oh yes' then you know they are scammers. If they say 'Oh no, he didn't send us one' then you can say "Well I'm sorry, I need a written authorisation from him to proceed". That way if your district manager is ever contacted you can say you were protecting the store from being scammed by requesting proof.

Tell them - oh, you are in luck. The district manager is actually here today. He's in back meeting with the store manager right now. Let me get him for you so he can approve this. What is your name? -- and they will run out the door.

They have no idea who the district manager is or what he or she looks like. You could grab any other employee and have them say they are the district manager and they did not receive or approve any such request

I can guarantee the card was stolen and they were trying to charge as much as possible before the card holder noticed the card was gone and could report it stolen and have it cancelled

Just give it to them and tell them to give you 10%
