What's your opinion on 13-14 year old girls wrestling on a co-ed team (with boys and/ or girls as oponents?)?

    It's fine. Especially if it's a co-ed team.

When my son was in high school, there was a girl on the varsity wrestling team. She was extremely good and made it all the way to states. (There had been a few other girl wrestlers on the team, but they hadn't made it to states.)

And while it's slightly different, my son now practices grappling and Brazilian jiu jitsu. There are some excellent women students and competitors. (There's one, a former teammate of Ronda Rousey, who's amazing.)

One thing to keep in mind--whether it's wrestling or BJJ--is that skill and technique count for a lot more than brute strength or even size.

Wrestling is a tough sport, regardless of your sex. If a girl wants to go out for wrestling, great.

Really very bad. Reason is take same age boy/girl...same height...girl has one third less upper body strength on average than a boy. So girl on girl might be OK...ish, but boy on girl ?...simply because of the difference in strength levels such a contest could lead to serious injuries for the girls. And we haven't even 'touched' on some of the more 'sensitive' areas involved here, if you see what I mean !!

My opinion is that it puts the boys in a lose-lose situation, at least in the short term.

In the longer term, maybe the experience will help the boys get more comfortable with treating women as equals, physically, so they don't hold back when a woman assaults them.

I think the rules and regulations would have to change to accommodate for the differences. To try and do so based on the same is going to be a bit one-sided.

Depends. Is she any good at it? Our local team could sure use some more wins.
