Function or not?

I require a bit of assistance, I am in an algebra class, and this is confusing me. i will be given sentences such as "the cost of first class postage on January first of each year since 1900. and asked to identify if it is a function, why or why not, and state the Independent variables and dependent variables if it is a function. here are two examples- the high temperature associated with the day of the year, and the time it takes a bungee jumper t seconds to reach H height above the ground. Can someone explain this to me please?? thanks for the responses!!

"the cost of first class postage on January first of each year since 1900"

Not a function, there no relationship between the cost and the time year (both variable could be independent. Unless there were more information at the end.)

"the high temperature associated with the day of the year"

Same as above. (both variable are independent, because you would measure time and temperature.)

"the time it takes a bungee jumper t seconds to reach H height above the ground"

Yes this is a function, There relationship between time an height. time is independent and height is dependent.
