Best tips to ensure a cake doesn t slip off the cake board?

I don t think I ve ever actually had a cake that has slipped but I have a two tier cake coming up. My recipes are for a very soft spongey cake, I may have to make the cake firmer for the two tier, though.

I intend on covering the board with paper, I will then have the cake on a round.

I m vegan so I don t use royal icing, what can I use to stick the cake round to the paper board?

I m mainly concerned as it will have to travel for about 20/30 minutes.

Thanks!

The cake round can be pasted to the cake board, since the actual cake won't be touching it. Look for edible glue at your local bakery supply store if you think you need to be safe.

  • Use a couple of dabs of your icing on the board before you put the cake down, to act as glue. I do that every time and never have had slippage. Hundreds of cakes, no accidents.

Before you start frosting the cake put some frosting on the bottom of the cake board before you put the cake on it. This will help secure it.

  • ALWAYS put a little icing between the board and the cake.

Suggest you use sand paper, rough side up on the board. I have never done it myself but it sounds reasonable.

Whatever frosting you're using, or jam. I don't use royal icing, just whatever is going on the cake.

Just a little frosting is all you need, and it won't slip.
